install problem with Synaptic
« on: October 31, 2006, 09:53:37 PM »

Hi, im NEWBIE in linux i have DreamLinux based on Debian and Morphix and i have installed AMULE from Synaptic. I installed it and i opened the program. It runs.
Later i wanted to "migrate" the files from eMule to Amule like someone has wrote here http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/Migrate_from_eMule_to_aMule

I have done these things ( i only wanted to see the downloading files, temp files) so before i copied the files i tried to open the program but it doesn't work.
May be i have a users permission conflict?
I dont know.

thank you.
Matias

Hi katon!

Could you please start aMule in a terminal by opening a terminal and typing 'amule' [and hitting enter]?
When you've done this, please post the output here.

Thank you!

Credits: Copy cryptkey.dat and preferences.dat from your eMule to the aMule configuration directory. (~/.aMule/)

Install: It is possible as user, if you don't install to /usr/bin and so on but to e.g. your home folder. /usr/bin and so on are only writeable with root permissions.
Synaptic/apt-get need root permissions anyway.

To save your credits - no. To be fair and save the credits others have - yes.

No. Your credits are in other people's clients.met. You have to indentify using your key, that's what it's for.

The cryptkey.dat is useless without preferences.dat, don't forget this one.
