Should we switch to the biggest server??
« on: January 11, 2007, 11:51:35 AM »

I am new to all this, so please bare with me!
In the networks window, I see a list of servers. It appears that I am only connected to one. Is that right? And then I see which one has the most files on it. I chose the one with the most files. Now after some time, he one I appear to be on is not the one with the most files. Should I therefore double click on the highest one, to transfer to that one? Is that the strategy? Or does that mess up all the stuff I am downloading at the moment??

Also, I am on the ED2K network. Should I also connect to the Kad network? Is it just like that the two add together? Like when I search for files, it just searches both of them? Or do I have to treat the 2 seperately?
YThanks very much!

Files are on the other clients. The servers are only helping you to find the other clients.

But since you'll ask any server there is no big different on what server you are.

In fact changing servers to often might result in a ban by the severs that will decrace your chances to finding sources and therefore decrase your chance in downloading.

The servers and Kad are two different ways to search for sources. You can activate them both and increase your chances in finding sources.

But when you are searching for a file you need to search on both networks (server + Kad) seperate.

Don't worry too much about what server you are connected to. You can search all the servers anyway with a global search.

Here is my rule of thumb
• for a file that is likely to be quite common, just do a "local" search; that is, just search the ed2k server you are connected to
 • for rare files, do a "global" search
 • if that doesn't return any hits, try a "kad" search.
 •
Sometimes you find something with kad you don't find with a global search -- and vice versa.
