How do I recover lost temp files
« on: January 13, 2007, 11:41:12 PM »

Hi everybody,

I have this huge problem.
I am downloading to an external hard drive. It happens every once in a while that it gets suddenly disconnected while a-mule is downloading (a crash, act of God, or whatever). A-mule crashes as a consequence.

When I restart it, it has lost all files that it was actively downloading. It gives me an error message saying that the part.met files and part.met.bak files are 0 kb and that the .part files cannot be recovered. Every time I lose several files that I may have been downloading for weeks or even months. It is very frustrating.

So my question is: do you know of a way I can recover those files? I still have the .part files. It just seems like a-mule cannot recognize them any longer. Is there something I can do?

Thanks,

Sidney

When you still know which files you where downloading:

Readd the download to the list and wait until it loaded some data and saved it to the .part-file. Now shut down aMule and replace the newly created .part-file with the oldone. Start aMule and it should be hashing the file according to the old content.

BTW: Try disabling write caching on your external hdd, I think this might help.

Thanks for your answer.

But I tried to do as you say and it did not work. Maybe I am doing something wrong.

Do you know how to disable the write caching in the external hard drive?

Thanks,
