firewall configuration
« on: December 26, 2008, 05:36:21 PM »

Hi,
My firewall is configured to check internet to local communications and, local to outside.

Since there is a way to know which port will be addressed by foreign user connecting to my box (UDPPort & TCPport in amule.conf). Is there another way to specify which port it have to use for communication to the Internet (I mean source port not the destination cause dest. port is set-up by other users !) In that way i'll will be able to correctly configure my firewall and then just open the right port for amule.
thanks.

BR.

EDIT :
So if  i'm correct here is the mechanism :
when client connect me :
other client  ---------> my fw (port open : 3131 udp&tcp to my ip) ---------->my computer (amule port 3131 udp&tcp)

when i connect to server /other client
other client /server (listen on undetermined port ) <------- my fw <--------- my computer (srcport maybe can be defined ; destport unknown because set by peer)
(can be set to anything by peer)

Outgoing connections are generated from random ports always. There are very few applications that I'm aware of that allow to set the source port of the traffic, and aMule is not one of them.
