KAD Problems, tried it all, help please.
« on: June 22, 2009, 04:42:29 PM »

Hi All,

I am having a problem, I just installed aMule (3.14b3)on Ubuntu 9.04. Im not a linux savy kind of guy so please dont start talking alien languages in your replies :)

I have used eMule for a long time without any problems and had great results on windows, but Im wanting to convert totally to linux.

In any case I installed aMule via the package manager, ensured my ports are forwarded on my Netcomm NB6PLUS4W modem (see attachment). I am set up on a static IP on my LAN via the mac address which is 192.168.0.10. See attached modem screenshot.

I have set up the same ports in aMule and also added the one for the 3+ port. See attached preferences screen shot. I also updated the IP filter from http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/level1.gz and turned off protocol obfuscation & remove dead servers from the list (not that any of these actions helped, all from forum posts I have read).

I have set up to share my downloads folder (imported all of my emule part files, worked fine) and other video folders I have on an external drive.

I have updated my server list from: http://www.gruk.org/server.met.gz
I have updated my nodes.dat file from http://www.emule-inside.net/nodes.dat

The ed2k connection is working fine, I have a high ID. I have install no specific firewall on ubuntu or messed with any network settings.

The KAD connection will not work. I have followed many posts about this problem, tried downloading popular files and then bootstrapping, tried many nodes.dat files then bootstrapping, nothing has let it connect. I have zero nodes (have occasionally seen 1-2 nodes come up on some nodes.dat files but when I press bootstrap nothing happens still). See attached image of KAD screen.

Not that its a big deal but the e2dk server that is always selected is some www.stormsex.net (I didnt select it), I used to connect to donkey server no1 and blues and monkeys in Australia (neither seem to have come up from any .met files I have tried) on windows emule and they were quite decent. It seems in the search results from these new servers that 99% of the files are in some european language or asian language, the ones I used to get were all in english. As as side point I had been running emule on windows xp for a few years and had built up a lot of credits (high UP to down ratio) I guess there is no way to bring that over?

I would really appreciate it if someone could take the time to help with the KAD problem, and or suggestions of the server list.
If you need me to run any commands, look in folders or edit/delete files on linux pls be specific as to the commands as I probably wont know what you mean unless you spell it out :)

Thanks in advance,

John

aMule != aMule Adunanza  ( ' != ' means NOT)

Last stable release of aMule is 2.2.5

See theses post:

Bug report in Ubuntu: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/app-install-data-ubuntu/+bug/368580

For install aMule use Synaptic.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I have uninstalled aMule Adunanza and installed aMule 2.2.4.

Luckily it took the settings from aMule Adunanza so everything I wrote in the initial message still stands except that it says I can connect to the KAD network, but it claims that KAD is firewalled (pls see info from first post to see that it should not be firewalled). I still cant get any downloads happening.

I have attached a shot of a portscan and also my firewall builder ruleset (standard).

Can anyone suggest a solution please?

Thanks,

John

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I have the firewall on the modem open on that port (as shown in the first posts attached screen shots), but Im not sure how to open it on the Linux side. Do you know of a good site to show me how to do this? Im running Ubuntu 9.04 so I guess Im using the standard firewall with that distro (not sure which one that is!).  Im not very knowledgable about linux fireall configurations.

KAD did finally connect but still says its firewalled and no downloads. I hope getting this port open in the OS will sort things out!

Thanks

John
