What do "Local Server" and "Source Exchange" mean?
« on: April 05, 2010, 03:18:00 PM »

What do the above terms "mean" in regard to the upload queue? (PLEASE  refer me to the appropriate aMule Wiki page --if it exists-- if you don't feel like writing a treatise on the matter.) Thanks.

Source exchange: if aMule has found a source which is also not finished yet aMule asks the source which sources it knows. So you can get sources publishing only on ED2K even if you use only KAD for example.

Thanks for replying Stu. I know I'm probably showing my ignorance, but what constitutes a "local" server (as opposed to a "global" server, I guess)?

I have no idea, or I would have answered that.  :)
(Servers are a thing of the past imho. In Lugdums's opinion too.)

You are a good man Stu. It is the rare individual who admits to not knowing something (everything?). Regards.

Local server = the server you're connected to.

For reference:

Source Exchange

>     Local
Only the server, the client is currently connected to will be searched.
>    Global (Server)
All servers from the server list are queried. Each server is asked individually. This puts added stress on all servers asked, use this respectfully.
If local gives you what you want, leave it at that.
>    Kademlia
Searches all the Kademlia network for the given keywords. The eD2k network, i.e. servers are not search with this method. It may take some time until the search results arrive. Should even a popular search expression yield no results then the system's UDP Port is probably blocked by a firewall or router. The "!" character at the search tab created shows the progress of the search.
