Socks Proxy
« on: August 17, 2004, 04:10:47 PM »

I'm looking forward to seeing socks v5 support in amule. Currently this prevents me from using aMule. I have to boot windows and use eMule for the same :-(. Is there an ongoing effort to include Socks proxy support ? If not, when do you see this happening ? Surely there must be some Socks code which can be reused from the eMule project.

You might be able to use a 'socksify' application (a library catching the socket calls and send them to the socks proxy) to operate amule over a socks5 server. The only question is, if incoming connections are supported with the current solutions, otherwise you will only get a low ID.

But you might get problems with the high ID anyway, because your machines IP is different from the socks server IP!?

I have tried socksifying amule using "dante", it does not work (connection isn't established). I'm behind a socks 5 proxy server, with UDP blocked. Other apps seem to work when socksified.

This is a funny thread, because, although no main developer has replied, we're having heavy discussion and investigation on this ;)

Just telling you :)
