Just installed amule on my system. I have opened ports 4662:tcp and 4672:udp ans still I get the following:

01/09/2005 02:58:28 PM: Credit file loaded, 0 clients are known
01/09/2005 02:58:28 PM: Loaded ipfilter with 0 new IP addresses.
01/09/2005 02:58:28 PM: This is aMule 2.0.0rc8 using wxGTK1 v2.4.2 (based on eMule)
01/09/2005 02:58:28 PM: Visit http://www.amule.org to check if a new version is available.

What have I omitted to do?

on the server tag, there is a url...
next to it there is a button :)

Thanks for that. Bit obvious really!

I have been connected for over an hour and don't seem to manage to download anything. I have selected several files for download. But, to the best of my knowledge there has been nothing downloaded. There is no evidence of download or upload activity either.

Edit: Forgot to add. Where are the download files saved?

Edit:edit: Found the dowload directory. I still don't seem to be downloading anything though. Uploads are going fine though; pretty much upto the max I have set.

the ed2k network is about credits, so in the beginning its not the fastest :)

check out http://wiki.amule.org

there are a lot of answered questions ;)
and also this "Why is amule so slow" question :)

I remember when I set up edonkey on XP; it took ages to get decent download speeds. I'm a bit miffed now as I deleted 20G of part files to install Linux on this box. I could have kept them and merged them into amule.

I take the point about credits, but am I likely to suffer from connecting through a router? I always get low id, even though I have set the firewall up OK.

well you have to forward the ports in your router firewall
its called maybe NAT, or virtuall server or something

check your manuall on howto setup a webserver for example behind you router,
with amule you should to teh same thing..

My router has settings for virtual server. It lists the ports to open. The bit I'm struggling with is the ip address. Should that be the ip address of the machine, in which case I've got a problem as I'm using DHCP, or is it another address (amule?)

well it should be the IP address of the maschine running amule....
so when the box which runs amule has a dhcp address, change it to a static address, and then forward teh port.

otherwise you wont get highID
