"you might also understand that the more you upload, the more you download, so take the upload limit up as much as you can, share well known and popular files (don't share too much (not more than approximately 200 files) or you'll get banned from some servers for giving too much traffic) and try to share small-sized popular files since some ED2K clients give extra credits for providing them a whole small-sized files."
http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ_aMule#What_are_the_best_settings_I_can_set_to_have_a_nice_download_rate?- Is not this totally against the principles of this network? Mean, the advantages of this network, over others, is its amount of relativly rare files. At least thats why I use aMule and then ignores the general slow download rates (rarely over 30Kb/s a file here, on a fast line, usually around 2Mb/s total upload).
If users follow these advices, to share max 200 pop small files, I guess this network will die very soon. Though my impression is that people in ed2k do not follow these advices, I think it is bad that the technology actually rewards they who do.
IMO it should have been oppsosite:
- People who upload rare files should be rewarded.
- People who upload big files should be rewarded.
- People who upload a lot of diferent files should be rewarded.
- People who upload a lot of bytes should be rewarded.
Will not enter any suggestions for now, but adress a possible problem, and see if there is any kind of consensus on the matter.
(I have reduced my offering to the network from over 2000 files to 189, but all of those 189 are big and not so pop (or maybe they are pop, people download them at least))
