Creating a cron to increase upload limiit
« on: September 17, 2005, 09:11:05 PM »

Hi

I've been using amule to get stuff I never could find in a hurry - its been great!but I note that my uploads are dismal compared to my downloads.Infact I'm downloading like mad(which is awesome!)but I'm not doing much to give back. This is because I've set my upload to the 80:20 guide so I can surf as well.  I just thought there must be a better way to do this and this is what I thought about :

setting a cron to increase limits(ie no limit) when I'm at work, or sleeping and alternatively set limits at certain times.  I have a 2mb down/256 up link.  So in this time I can do some substantial uploading i think.

I would like to know how I can get this done?
I'm thinking that this should be included in cron and amule should be able to accept commands from cli ?? can it?

Thanks in advance!

So you have already set our upload to 80% of the up capacity of your line? You shouldn't set it higher that that, even if you're not surfing or anything, as it could also slow down your downloads, especially if you use a release version of amule which doesn't have UBT...

On a 256 kbit/s (32 kbyte/s) an upload of 25kbyte/s should be ok, you can experiment a little with that...

Hi

Yes I have set the limit to a little lower than that as I also run a bittorent client as well - got advice from here for my router - http://forum.emule-project.net/index.php?showtopic=39030.

BTW - what is UBT?

Hi there

apologies - I've performed the cardinal sin off not reading FAQ properly first before posting.  the answer can be found here - http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ_amulecmd .

Sorry about this.

btw, if you don't have a remote.conf in the .aMule-Dir of the user executing the cronjob, you'll also need to supply the externalconnections-password (although  not a very good idea, because the password will be saved as clear text in your crontab)
