"First and last chunks first" not working.
« on: October 13, 2004, 10:49:59 PM »

Since the very first release of aMule I used, up to the current 2.0.0RC6, "First and last chunks first" never worked for me. I mean, I usually get the first chunk first, but the last one is often... the last. Even if it's not the last, it doesn't seems to be prioritized at all - quite the contrary, apparently. I think I already wrote about this here, and a developer assured me the function works fine, but in my experience, it never did, through the various releases. Any clue? Thanks.

This option does not obligate amule to get these chunks first. For example, if the last chunk of a file has only one source, while the rest have many sources, amule won't wait to get the last to start getting the rest. This is more like a kind of suggestion to emule, not an order.

Regards.

I know what you mean. But it seems to me that the last chunk has just no priority at all - contrarily to the first one. Of course my observations are absolutely empirical, so I'd be curious to take a look at the relevant code. Can anyone point out the source file involved?

xenon. this option is not enabled by default into eMule, which is the most used ed2k client (it's not because of sharing issues, to avoid files which only are begining and endning of them on the netwrok)
As so, most ppl don't use it.
As so, last chunks are the last ppl ususally get
As so, last chunks are the hardest to find ;)
If you haveproblems previsualiing a video, use mplayer -idx since with that option it'll justneed the beginig of the file, no matter if there's not a single bit of the end.
Greetings!

Thanks for you reply. I'm already using mplayer that way, but sometimes you can't seek through the file anyway. Not a huge problem, of course.
