new AMule doen't like my computer
« on: January 12, 2006, 07:22:57 PM »

I  have really enjoyed amule in the past, but for the most recent 6 months or so since I got a new G5 and DIRECWAY, I can't seem to get it to work,  not even the new 2.1.0.  My problem seems to be that I can connect to amule via the servers for a period of time with lots of sources and then I get disconnected and/or lose most of the sources for files I am trying to download.  With the new 2.1.0 I also have to restart my internet connection (DWAY) because the amule freezes my TCP connection. I haave aafeeeling the probleem is with DWAY,  but could use any help anyone can offer.

Some additional  info - when connected I do get High ID,  and i get very few clients on my queue line wwith the new 2.1.0.  I can provide additional info if there's not enough.

Is DIRECTWAY an ISP or a router?  Hmm.  I googled and it seems it's a satellite internet provider.  That means it's more or less both an ISP and router, with the potential problems of each.

As a router, there's probably a problem with the number of connections that are being opened, or the rate at which they are being opened.  First, check if there are updates for the firmware in your hardware.  Also, in aMule's preferences you can reduce the Max. Connections (in "Connection") and the Max. new connections / 5 secs (in "Core Tweaks").  You should also experiment with reducing your upload bandwidth limit.

As an ISP, there may be policies (open or secret) against using your connection for P2P file sharing.  Try changing the port numbers that aMule is using.  However, they may be analyzing you traffic or your bandwidth usage rather than relying on the port numbers.  Your only choice in this case is to complain or vote with your wallet.
