You have to configure your router to forward the ports that aMule uses to the private IP address of the computer running aMule.  Your internet connection has a public IP address that everybody in the world can use to direct traffic to your home network.  However, all that traffic goes to your router because it is the "outward facing" part of your home network.  Your computers inside your home network don't have public IP addresses that make sense in the outside world, they have private IP addresses that are only meaningful inside your home network.  So, in order for the outside world to contact your aMule computer, your router has to know that certain data that it receives should be forwarded to that computer.

OK, so how to do that.  Well, that's different for each model of router.  You can read your router's manual.  You might also take a look at http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm.  It's a little Windows-centric in a few places, but it should be easy enough to follow.

By default, the ports that aMule uses are: TCP 4662, UDP 4665, and UDP 4672.

hi ken,

in other words you just open those ports and you redirect them all to the computer that hosts aMule right?

thanx in advance

thanks Ken
I understood that, so I'm already feeling a lot better (all too often, explanantions are written in a way for people who don't need them, oh well, such is life)
I'm looking up that web now – alas my router 'manual' is non-existent, as I got a sort of minimal brochure with it from my local ip service provider (package deal story)

Thanks again, I'll post later with a progress report   :-)

I am not ken, but yes

forward them all to your host where aMule is running, and you get a highID and downloads should be fine....
