very simple menu change!
« on: June 28, 2006, 04:11:19 PM »

i would like the "PREVIEW" option to be available for ALL files, not just video files.

this is because many times i wait for days downloading a piece of software that ends up being porn... it would be nice to test .rar, .iso, and other files without having to wait until they are complete.

Yeah, the menu change is simple.

The more difficult part is to set up preferences for each file type to preview with what.

You misunderstand - same player for all files.  I'm just saying don't grey-out the "preview" option for non-video files, so that a user can test to see if any given file is actually a video.

You don't understand. You have to specify the app to preview for each filetype, and that's not a simple change.

No, he wants to preview them using the VIDEO player.

Yes, Kry understands.   It should not be more involved than commenting out one or two lines of code.

Other than that, it's a wonderful piece of software!

Whatever suits you, seems like it would be easiest to simply not grey-out the menu option.

Look it's not that hard to understand.  Have you ever downloaded a large rar and when you go to unarchive it you get "Invalid archive"?  Chances are good that it's a porn movie that has been renamed to whatever you think you're downloading.  If you play it in mplayer you can view it.

So instead of waiting for days for a large archive to finish downloading,  it would be nice to simply use the video preview option - if it shows a video obviously the archive is fake.

side-note: VLC plays them, even if parts of a multi-span archive are missing or the archive is broken. (and even if there's a iso of a dvd in the missing/broken rars  :P)

I use File Details to check other file names. If most of the file names are of something different than what I think, chances are high that it is fake.

Ah, yes, file details, if only that was available from the daemon/gui combination.

But come to think of it, neither is preview, so this thread does not apply to me anyway....  ;)
