freezes when i add shared files

hi, i just downloaded amule yesterday... and it was working ok, although it was a little slow... so in the options (directory) I tried to add files to share (to help it go faster). it sais to right click on the files I want to share, so I double click on them (i have a mac) and the files I choose turn red, after that I click ok to save the changes and the program freezes. I chose to quit the program and try to open it again, but it freezes as soon as it opens every time. the program doesn't give me any crash report or write anything to console.log... I have to delete the program from my computer and download it again for it to work... it's the first time I use a p2p program and have no idea about them, why is this happening?  my program is in spanish, don't know if that would have anything to do with it...

My guess would be that aMule didn't freeze, but became very slow. aMule (and every other ED2K client) hashes every shared file. This can take a while and on slow computers lmake it look like aMule doesn't respond anymore.

i don't know, it sounds weird to me, although it could be... i have a powerbook G4. but if it becomes very slow, then why won't it start after i quit and open again? it opens and automatically "freezes", that´s why i have to re-download…

I believe aMule continues hashing when it's restarted if it didn't finish hashing all the files before it was quit. So, that would explain why it "freezes" when aMule is restarted, but I'm not sure about that.

To experiment, try sharing a directory with only a few small files in it.  See if aMule remains responsive or recovers relatively soon.

You can also use Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor to see if aMule is using lots of CPU while it seems frozen.  If you double-click on aMule's entry in Activity Monitor's list, it will bring up a dialog with details on the process.  In this dialog, press the Sample button, which will analyze what aMule is doing internally.  Post that sample to new thread in the Mac OS X board on this forum.
