Rpms for RedHat 9
« on: August 16, 2006, 01:54:48 AM »

I managed to have a RedHat 9 box at my disposal, thanks to masster, and managed to build some rpms of aMule and wxGTK...get them here:
http://www.savefile.com/projects/405181

They where made and post in a bit of a rush...so please if any one have troubles installing these rpms please post here....
You must install the wx-base and wx-gtk2 rpms
Then you can install aMule as you wish with webserver,amulecmd,amule-daemon,etc....
For non X systems just the wx-base is required to install amule-daemon or other components to control aMule.
There are some missing parts like cas and amulegui but i couldnt finish the job properly ....going to try building and post them here when i have them ready....
Once again thanks to masster without him this wouldnt be possible...THANKS

Cheers....

hi,
i am really new at linux, i have red hat 9
i tried to install  amule from the directory above (http://linfreak.zapto.org/amule/RH9/)

i downloaded 3 packages:
aMule-2.1.3-1_RH9.i386.rpm
wx-base-unicode-2.6.3-1_RH9.i386.rpm
 wx-gtk2-unicode-2.6.3-1_RH9.i386.rpm

and i have installed successfully the 2 wx.
but now, trying with amule, a message appeared:

libbfd-2.15.so couldn be found

the install process cant go on without it..

where i can find it??

thanks a lot for helping me!

Well...for start you can post the output in a console of:
rpm -qa | grep wx
and:
rpm -qa | grep libwx

and of course you can start amule in a console just type amule and hit enter.
Must have something in the console just post it in here too.  ;)

Cheers....

I dont quite understand whats the problem you have...
So....have binutils installed but when u run amule in a console something like "error while loading shared libraries: obbfd-2.15.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" appear?
Can you please explain a bit better?
I need the output of:
rpm -qa | grep aMule

Thanks...

Hello,

ok, it's my first time writing in a forum and english is not my native language, so be patience with me.

I was working with aMule 2.0.0 and works well in a standart RH9.

- amule-2.0.0-1.0.rh9.rf.i386.rpm (http://dag.wieers.com/packages/amule/)
- wxBase-2.4.2-1.i386.rpm (http://biolpc22.york.ac.uk/pub/2.4.2/)
- wxGTK-2.4.2-1.i386.rpm (http://biolpc22.york.ac.uk/pub/2.4.2/)

But since one month I can't do any search and I need to use emule in windows to do the search and get link in amule.... This is not a big problem to me, but  when I saw this thread I wanted to try if the problem is a version problem or what....

So, here begins the ride, I install the wx packages with no problem, and finally I install amule and have this error message:

error: Failed dependencies:
        libbfd-2.15.so is needed by aMule-2.1.3-1_RH9

This library is in binutils package but a standart RH9 box comes with binutils-2.13.90.0.18-9.i386.rpm, so I thought "maybe I need upgrade this RPM to the 2.15 version".... ok I looked for it in http://fr2.rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=binutils&submit=Search+... and I installed binutils-2.15.90.0.3-5.i386.rpm. (In the web page says this RPM is for fedora core 2 but it installs fine).
Ok, now I have a library with correct version but the same problem continues, so I thought "maybe the problem is the name of the library because amule is looking for libbfd-2.15 and I have libbfd-2.15.90.0.3.so".
I do a soft link (ln -s) of libbfd-2.15.90.0.3.so to libbfd-2.15.so in /usr/lib directory, but doesn't work..... so my question is:

Where is amule looking for libbfd-2.15.so?
Maybe is in other directory than /usr/lib?

Thanks in advance

Could you please try to force-install the package?
rpm -Uhv --force aMule-2.1.3-1_RH9.rpm (I hope my memory doesn't trick me with this command...)

Yes, I tried to install with --nodeps option but the same problem continues when you run amule because it can't found the library.

wardevil:

Now I have a machine testing Fedora 5. I have original Red Hat  from 6.1 to 9 (all versions). If you want, I can install Red Hat 9 in this machine and let you enter by telnet and make all tests in it. It is no problem for me.

I have another server running RH9 in the same LAN, (webserver, mailserver, amule, etc.), but I think is not a problem.

If you are interested, contact me to open router ports and everything.
