can't connect to kad
« on: November 02, 2006, 08:44:44 PM »

hi

i am using amule in a new location with a new router, and have forwarded the tcp and udp ports as with my previous router, and made sure that the settings are the same on the router and in amule (tcp: 4662, udp: 4672). ed2k is working fine but kad is continually firewalled (yellow) or off (red).

do i need to forward additional ports, or is there some other setting i need to change to get this working properly (it worked fine with my previous router)

thanks

nick

Does the connection tester say that everything is ok?

Kad sometimes need a while to realize that it is not firewalled.

it seems to be working OK now, but it was a long wait (several days) for kad to realise it wasn't firewalled.  as far as i can see there isn't a connection tester in the MAC version of amule.  is this right?

thanks

Hi nick!

The connection tester is a website you have to visit, nothing local or platform specific. Click the link in lionel's post above.

alext,

if the connection tester tells you that you are firewalled, you need to do the following:

Quote
You need to forward the ports that aMule uses in your router. Take a look at http://portforward.com/routers.htm, that page has detailed step-by-step instructions for pretty much every router on the market.

aMule uses three ports (see Preferences->Connection) that need to be forwarded:
  • a client TCP port
  • a client UDP port (this is the above port +3)
  • and an eMule extended UDP port
Also, if you are running any firewall software (e.g., OS X's built-in firewall, which you can control via System Preferences->Sharing->Firewall) on your computer, you need to open the above ports there as well.

You can use the connection tester to check whether the client TCP port can be reached from the outside, that is, whether it is forwarded properly in your router and not blocked by any firewall software.

Good luck. :)

You should also read the Getting Started Guide. That explains, for instance, how you download a server list and how you connect to ed2k and kad.

Since you're not connecting, let's leave concerns about LowID, firewalls, routers, and forwarding ports until after you're able to connect.  :)
