Pause a down/up-load
« on: November 16, 2006, 09:34:18 PM »

We are several users of the ADSL in the house, and some of them are not so happy for the slow speed when amule is downloading. I have marked all the downloads "pause", but the upload is still going on and slows down the internet. I don´t find a way to mark the upload (shared files) "pause".

Is there a way to pause the whole amule without loosing what I have already downloaded, and resume downloading later? I once closed the amule program and lost everything...

Thank you!

Hi benedictep!

First of all: Reduce your upload speed (Preferences->Connection->Bandwith Limits->Upload). This should already better the situtation.
Then: Reduce the number of sources (lower the hardlimit) and connections (mac. connections).

But in general, you _won't_ loose anything when you shut down aMule. All the files will (are supposed) to be safed and you (should) can download later. This ought to be a problem one should be able to fix. We just need more information about what went wrong.
To tell us more, please open aMule in a terminal and post the output after the crash here.

That time when you lost everything, did you first quit aMule and then when the app did not close immediately (because it was writing the most recent downloads to disk) do a force quit?

Hi wuischke,

Thank´s for the tip! I have now set the upload in line capasity to 5 kB/s, the download is 301 kB/s. the bandwith shows from before 0 kB/s in up- and download, and 2 in slot allocation...? Hard limit is set to 200 from 300 and max connections to 500. Any advice for further changes?

Since I lost my downloads, it has taken me some months to dare to start downloading again, so I don´t know where to find the information you need. what happend was that all the downloadlist in amule was blank..., and now I hardly dare to touch a button:)

Hi lionel77,

It might very well be a forced a quit. it was a time when my ibook was freezing a lot, and i could waite "hours" for the rainbow to finnish spinning. But what happended after the forced quit, was that when I reeopened the downloadpage in amule, it was blank. At least some of the older downloads should have been ther, no?

So you think that if I close down amule normally and wait for it to shut down by itself, I can reopen and continue as normal?

Thank you for your help!

If you close down amule normally and wait for it to shutdown you can restart amule and continue downloading.
At least, I can.
