a sad day.
« on: November 22, 2006, 10:35:42 AM »

today i took my amule offline,
it has been running since v1.0 was realeased on PLF.

i was looking at my stats & log and realised that i was recieving *nothing*,
just being leeched by all the windoze users. :(

looking closer it looks like everybody in the world who uses windoze has downloaded v47c and enabled packet encryption.
i know this has been around a while, but only last week it wasnt much of a problem, only about 10% of clients seemed to be using it - that's changed now. :(
i blame that damned donkeyserver1 for this, they forced people to enable the encryption to use the search function  X(

so my mule-box uptime has come to an end, and i wait for some kind of update.
 ;(

Enabling package obfuscation just means, that there's the possibility to use PO, but not that there's no connection to non-PO clients. You have to explicitly enable 'connect to obfuscated clients only' if you want/need this.

In other words: eMule 0.47c with enabled PO can connect to normal clients in not obfuscated mode and to 47c-PO-clients in obfuscated mode.
aMule can connect to normal clients and to 47c-PO-clients in not obfuscated mode.

The problem is that *almost* all of those clients are now running in *just* obfuscated mode rejecting non-obfuscated connections.
In consequence everyone that is not obfuscated cannot get in or get sources.

@bad-times: If I understand that correct, the connect to obfuscated clients ONLY. So I would call them a subculture ( not really, because they are many ), and since you are not obfuscated, they can't leech from you.

I have been noticing as well the same problem.
Everyone leaches from me and i cant get anything from them.

I'm putting together a test bed scenario to see if they reject everything non-obfuscated or just uploading to an un-obfuscated client.

Ill keep you posted on the results

i am very greatfull to the dev's,
i know it's free and i have no right to ask for stuff, so i just wait and hope.

i rang a friend and he had 75% clients on 47c - not as bad as me.
it may be the files, he is a films guy but i only download and share emulator stuff - mostly mame.

most emu fans run windows.

maybe the problem is that when i connect my client sends it's "request" list in plain format and they reject it,
but when they search for stuff my client responds openly?

What's your problem with the kad list?
Try http://nodes.soultcer.net/ for nodes.dat files. Download it (amule shutdown), save it to ~/.aMule/nodes.dat and start aMule.
