Help with aMuleCmd please
« on: December 11, 2006, 08:45:41 AM »

Hi all,

I'm an absolute noob  ?( ?( ?( in using aMule.  I just got it to compile and tried to read all the articles on aMuleCmd, but I have no idea how to get this working.  Much help for a noob is appreciated, perhaps one day I can give back to this community!

Here's what I want to do:
Simple connection to a webserver (maybe like DonkeyServer?).
Retrieve a filelist.
Lookup the file statistics.

But I cant even get step 1 done!  8o
I used the command: amulecmd -h 64.241.53.16 -p 4242 -P mypassword -c status

(that's the IP and port for DonkeyServer no.2).  But it gives me "Connection Failed.  Unable to connect to the specified host."  I suppose since this works with localhost, the password I'm using is supposed to be DonkeyServer's?  How can I find this password?   :(

ANY help would be much appreciated!!   :baby: Thanks in advance.

Hi karthur26!

amulecmd controls aMule or amuled, but not an edonkey-server. You need a running aMule(d) to search for files, start downloads and so on using amulecmd.

What you want to do is not possible, as it's not a webserver but a edonkey-server, which does not store files to download. All the files are shared by the people using an ed2k-client like aMule or eMule. You connect with your ed2k-client to the server to get information about the files which are shared (search for files) and to get sources for the files you're downloading  - to connect to other clients and download what they share.

Hi wuischke,

Thank you very much for your reply!

I had originally thought aMuleCmd was a standalone program.  Now you clarified that I'm supposed to use it to CONTROL amuleD.  Thank you so much, it's working as expected and I can continue now.

Thank you SOOOOO much.   :D :D :D
