Not downloading?!
« on: December 16, 2006, 09:53:01 PM »

Howdy,

I've got a really weird problem with aMule SVN (as of Dec 16, 2006). When I try to download anything, the program looks for sources for a while, but fails to find *any* valid (e.g. for a very popular file for some time there are 0/124 sources, then it drops to 0/105, then it shows only 0). Right now I'm using wxGTK 2.8.0. I'm sure it's not a question of network configuration as I've been using aMule 2.1.3 with wxGTK 2.6.3 ever since it's come out and it was always working fine. Right now I can't make out what's happening, are there any new critical options in SVN? Thanks for any hints and sorry if I've missed something trivial,

Best regards,
Kempniu

Hi Kempniu,

There has been no critical change in aMule network code since 2.1.3. Also, I have been using SVN tarballs and they work well here.

Check your network. Maybe you are having a problem with the router dropping packets, or your ISP has started to filter ed2k. In the latter case, you will only have a chance with protocol obfuscation, which is not yet implemented in aMule.

If you can do an experiment with a windows machine running eMule, you could try witout and with protocol obfuscation turned on to see if it matters.

Cheers!

I've tried wxGTK 2.7.2 + aMule SVN (20 Nov 2006) as suggested elsewhere on the forum, yet it did no good. I'm really confused by this situation. On the same network settings, wxGTK 2.6.3 + aMule 2.1.3 works perfectly. Any SVN version breaks downloading. Guess I'll just have to fall back to what's working. If I find out anything new, I'll let you people know.

Very strange. Maybe an issue with IP filtering? Are you sure the sources you got are not filtered out?

No, I have no IP filters set up. Something's really bizzarre in here. Comparing the download speed of the same files, aMule 2.1.3 downloaded over 2 gigs of data in 6 hours, while aMule SVN, also in 6 hours, got... 6,54 megs.

Does aMule need any ports open other than: 1) TCP server connection (which differs dependantly on the server one uses), 2) TCP socket set in Preferences, 3) UDP socket set in preferences? I'm always trying to apply a firewall ruleset as minimalistic as it's possible and maybe I've blocked something up. However, it has never been a problem since I created this ruleset.

EDIT: aMule 2.1.3 with the wxGTK 2.8.0 patch also works just fine. Guess the SVN version just doesn't like me ;)

Kempniu,

Please, send a PM to me with an ed2k link so that I can test. Also send me the ed2k link of the server you are using.
