Cabos-like GUI
« on: January 04, 2007, 01:25:18 PM »

aMule's GUI sucks. Excuse me, but it really does. There is so much clutter in it, and it fails miserably when compared to Cabos. Please have a look at it, play with it, and see the difference. It looks minimal, it is minimal, but is very powerful and has all the right things at the right place.

feature request (a lover's demand): make aMule look like Cabos.

P.S. Cabos is a gnutella client. http://cabos.sourceforge.jp/

Are you having problems with the word "sucks"?

>Oxford English Dictionary: [ intrans. ] informal: be very bad, disagreeable, or disgusting.

So, to rephrase, it is "very bad". Happy now?

No, not really. What about "I dislike it"?

Proposal: Design the perfect GUI for aMule and describe it using pictures and your words. (In a way it is easy to understand for everyone).

I'm sure you will find support if your idea is really good and well presented.

Well, maybe except from the people that you know, you offended by insulting the interface right away before making any proposal.

Somehow I feel this thread will not go far...

You'll notice I'm being exceptionally forgiveful with this one.

Yes, forgiveful. Try Oxford English Dictionary.

Indeed, my friend. I could hardly believe it. You must be on a very good humor today.

Cheers!

aMule is cross-platform, so it will most likely always have it's rough edges on Windows and Mac... Get over it or help the wxCocoa-Devs (which seem to be 0 at the moment)

This makes sense. If no one is/was working on the GUI, no wonder it is so bad.

I have made the proposal upfront. Read the subject and the text again.

The fact that you like the present GUI does not mean that yours is
the only possible point of view. As a matter of fact, try Cabos, and
you will have answers to most of your questions. Its GUI is very well
designed. I understand that it is a mac application, but macs have
a well established reputation for good GUI design. Incidentally, by
having a clutter-free GUI, maintenance of aMule would be smoother,
the code itself would be to the point (less bugs), and port to platforms
other than linux (mac in my case) would have a better outcome.
It is a win-win situation, only if you are willing to step out from your
dogma and see things from another point of view. You might like it,
and realise that your former view was not as good as you thought.
For this to be possible, you need a flexible mind, of course.

Let me keep it short: Rufus, be quiet please.

Longer version: You _do_ have a point. And we _do_ know that the GUI needs a redesign.
But: You are permanently insulting people and are pretty much everything else but constructive.
I know I should just delete your last post (you realize, that you offend the developers pretty hard, don't you? You accuse aMule of having lots of bugs, call them close minded and so on...) to make you seem less of a troll, but instead (as you are unable to present your GUI proposal in a way anyone might understand it but instead talk about the superiority of Mac above other platforms) I'll just close the thread.

I personally give you another chance, when you describe the cabos-GUI using screenshots with some explanations, but I don't know what's Kry's temper today...
