Kademlia and aMule FAQ page
« on: February 18, 2007, 09:44:40 PM »

This is the advice that is given on the aMule help page:

Why does Kademlia still say it is "firewalled?"
If you are using Kad and your router is doing NAT (Network Address Translation), you should prevent your router from remapping the port of outgoing UDP port 4672 packets. This might help if you have a high ID but Kad status is 'firewalled'.

Is there any advice to be found about how to stop one's router from 'remapping the port of outgoing UDP port 4672 packets'?

I have a 3com OfficeConnect ADSL WIreless 11g Firewall Router.

My router Firewall/Special Applications page allows me to define numbered ports. Thus I have a Trigger Port column (in which I specify the port number (4662), a Trigger Type column (in which I specify TCP), a Public Port column ( in which I specify the port number (4662-4672) and a Public Port Type column (in which I specify UDP).

My router Firewall/Virtual Servers page allows me to link my LAN IP Address to the Protocol Types (in this case TCP and UDP), to Lan Ports (in this case 4662 and 4665), and to Public Ports (in this case 4662 and 4665).

Nowhere am I able to work out how to '[stop] the router from remapping the port of outgoing UDP port 4672 packets'. Can anyone advise me on how this is done and what the differences between trigger ports, public ports and LAN ports are, both with respect to each other and, if relevant, to incoming and outgoing?

Thank you.
