High ID, yet another problem: servers switching, WHY??
« on: May 06, 2007, 05:01:13 AM »

Hello.

Me again, sorry.

Still getting incredibly low sources, and NO downloads. NOW the problem seems to be with the server! It first connected to my default, DonkeyServer2 -- which has never given me any problems in the past -- but NOW, it has switched to the "Byte Devils" server.

Does this mean I have a bug?
Is the problem with MY computer or with the server itself?
Is anyone else having similar problems?

NOW, just a few minutes later, I looked back to find that I had slid from my HighID (green) to a LowID (yellow)!

AGAIN, I tested my TCP port 4662 at <www.amule.org/testport.php> and AGAIN it gave me the same report: "Success!! The TCP port 4662 is available . . . "

So, IT says that it's available, that I should have a highID, yet aMule, with still ridiculously few sources and NO downloads, says I have a LowID.

Should I just re-install aMule? Will that help? If so, how to?

THis is incredibly frustrating. Any assistance would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

And yet again, another problem:

My TCP port 4662, though OPEN in my router and on my computer, is all of the sudden NOT being recognized as open BY aMule!

Nothing is different in my setup from yesterday, when I had all the other above problems. Now, though, this NEW problem has emerged! Arrrggghh!!!

Does ANYONE know what the f**k is going on?

Is my ISP BLOCKING TCP port 4662? If so, I've read in the tutorial that I can use aMule via some other ports -- which ports are recommended? Can I just pick a number at random?

Why have all these problems only recently started? I've been using aMule for months (even with a LowID) for MONTHS and NOTHING like this has happened!!??

Again, any help would be so very appreciated. Thanks.

Try changing ports, and reducing your upload speed a bit. Also try reducing max connections/5 sec to 10 (or evn 5) as your router might be having problems.

Skolnick:

Just wondering exactly WHICH port should I try? Are there an endless numbers of ports? From what number to what? 4000-10,000? or 100,000? Can I just pick one at random? Say, 8005 or something?
Thanks for your reply!

Now I've tried opening port 8045. Although I've gone thru and opened it in all the areas necessary -- including my computer, my wireless router, and have changed my aMule preferences to this TCP port, there is still some problem: when testing to see if aMule recognizes that this port is open, it gives me an error!, so I'm back to having a LowID. Any idea what I need to do to retain another HighID now that I've made the changes you've recommended?

There are no infinite port numbers. They go from 1 to 65535. Always use a port whose number is bigger than 1024 (lower ports are reserved). Try for example 44662, or 12345. Keep in mind that the server UDP port will always be TCP+3. With your configuration, you should get a highID doing this:

1. Choose port numbers (I think you already did that)
2. Map your computer to a static IP address, or configure your router to always assign it the same IP (I did that, works fine).
3. Forward the chosen ports to your computer's IP address, taken care if they are TCP or UDP (Some routers allow you to choose this, if there is no such option, just forward the port number)
4. Configure aMule with the newly forwarded ports
5. Configure any firewall you may have installed (FC6 includes shrewall, no idea about your distro) so it will let traffic to the selected ports.

Regards.
