amule crashes every day
« on: May 07, 2007, 06:40:12 AM »

It seems that amule is still as unstable as ever... I'll start posting the crashes here,
you never know (haha).

A fatal error has occurred and aMule has crashed.

Please assist us in fixing this problem by posting the backt race below in our

'aMule Crashes' forum and include as much information as pos sible regarding the

circumstances of this crash. The forum is located here:

    http://forum.amule.org/board.php?boardid=67

If possible, please try to generate a real backtrace of this  crash:

Hi Carlo:

What operating system/distribution are you using? I suspect a problem with an external crypto++.

Also: Please use aMule CVS (http://amule.hirnriss.net) version for bug reports and try to use a version with debug support to create an gdb backtrace. It is easier to find out about the reason for the crash this way.

You found this link on the main page or in the downloads?

P.S. Be nice. :)

wuischke,

This link is from the old bulletin board software. The CVS version already has the correct URL.

Carlo,

You are using an old version of the software, not to mention that your cryptopp lib is broken. If you want to run the CVS version, recompile it using wx-2.8.3 or later. Also, if you want to post backtraces, compile aMule with debug information. The wiki has the necessary information on how to do that.

I am using Debian 'testing' (Lenny).

ii  amule          2.1.3-1        client for the eD2k and Kad networks, like e
ii  libcrypto++5.2c2a                 5.2.1c2a-3                      General purpose cryptographic shared library

It is printed in the terminal from which I started amule
(stdout or stderr thus).

I appologise. It's just that I have had a very bad experience with one
amule developer in the past (he was the lead developer). In the past I
joined the amule development team to help out, but this one character
turned out to be so impossible that I left again and joined xmule for a while
just to get even :p His level of treating people was so low that I STILL (several
years later) have a bitter taste in my mouth (think of nasty CVS commit
comments after I left that attack me personally). If this guy left amule,
then I'll be very happy to help to track down any problem with amule
that I run into.

PS One direct prove of this persons childishness is the fact that this account is
tagged with the Custom Title "amule hater and xmule supporter". I am not
authorized to change that. If someone would be so kind to remove that "title"
then it will help me to forget those bad experiences from the past :)

I see, there's something going on I cannot influence...I didn't want any hostilities to happen, but it's obviously far behind my reach.

I'll answer anyway:

Debian packages are build against an external Crypto++-library. I would NOT recommend doing this, as it may lead to instabilty (as it did in your case). aMule (CVS) built against its built-in crypto++ and wxGTk 2.8.3 is very stable for me.

The URLs changed after the board update and this is as phoenix already mentioned fixed in development tarball.
