How to avoid getting the spam hits when searching?
« on: June 06, 2007, 10:35:27 AM »

When I do a search on ED2K there sem always to be 3 hits axtra for whatever I search for, which are sma; files about 1MB in size, and entitled for example as "Find ... using emule multimedia toolbar.zip", having for example 60000 sources listed.

This seems to slow down Amule during the search process. How do I avoid such things? Is it from false servers or something? (I do use the recommended ip filter).

Thanks.

Yes, they are from fake servers, which you have in your server list. Try removing every unknown server in your server list or use local/kademlia search.

Thanks for the advice. That raises 2 further questions
1) Will that stop me from finding genuine hits? What about all the stuff from servers that are genuine but unknown to me?

2) What is an unknowm server? For example is it all ones without the name "Donkey server"?

Thanks very much.

1.) You will get the most hits from the big and well-known servers and even though it is possible it is unlikely that you will not find a certain file with a reduced server list. In doubt, use kademlia search.

2.) Basically, yes. I think you will run fine with only the donkey servers in your server list.

I do run fine with only the genuine donkeyservers on my list (accept no imitations!) so it can be done. No problems at all.

Regards.
