AMule menus/borders/etc dissapear?
« on: March 08, 2004, 11:31:36 PM »

I've been running AMule for a while now and seems like after about 24 to 48 hours it always corrupts itself and the display stops working. In the image below, the scroll bars dissapear, the menus don't render and neither does the status bar. AMule runs just fine the whole time, but the screen doesn't update. It does this all the time, and the only way I've been able to fix it is to restart it. I'm running KDE 3.2 if it makes a difference. Any ideas?

I'm not sure...  Does this mean it's linked against gtk2?

Code: [Select]
bakers@scott(/usr/lib)
: ls -l /usr/bin/wx*
-rwxr-xr-x    1 root     root         4864 Nov 28 04:08 /usr/bin/wxbase-2.4-config
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           17 Feb 20 19:42 /usr/bin/wx-config -> wxbase-2.4-config
bakers@scott(/usr/lib)
:ls -l /usr/lib/libwx*
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           23 Feb 20 19:42 /usr/lib/libwx_base-2.4.so -> libwx_base-2.4.so.0.1.1
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           23 Feb 20 19:42 /usr/lib/libwx_base-2.4.so.0 -> libwx_base-2.4.so.0.1.1
-rwxr-xr-x    1 root     root      1386857 Nov 28 04:08 /usr/lib/libwx_base-2.4.so.0.1.1
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           22 Feb 22 14:18 /usr/lib/libwx_gtk-2.4.so -> libwx_gtk-2.4.so.0.1.1
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           22 Feb 22 14:18 /usr/lib/libwx_gtk-2.4.so.0 -> libwx_gtk-2.4.so.0.1.1
-rwxr-xr-x    1 root     root      5948808 Nov 17 03:12 /usr/lib/libwx_gtk-2.4.so.0.1.1

Hi there,

Just because muerte doens't mention it, I'd like to say I had exactly the same problem (I think wxgtk was using gtk on my gentoo system), and recompiling according to the howto (I think the disable-gtk2 must have been the important part, right?) solved it.

Thanks,

Paulo

yes, wxgtk isn't ready for gtk2 .. means linking wxgtk against gtk2 may cause problems

Well I'm confused, I've installed both wxGTK and wxBase via RPM from your site and I don't have

/usr/bin/wxgtk-2.4-config
/usr/bin/wxhelp
or
wx-config

And thus I'm still having problems. Should I be installing from source to get these files or what?

Is wxGTK-devel required? If it is it's not required by the RPMs for installation. Here is my /usr/bin output now:

Code: [Select]
ls -l /usr/bin/wx*
-rwxr-xr-x    1 root     root         4864 Nov 28 04:08 /usr/bin/wxbase-2.4-config
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           17 Mar 22 11:14 /usr/bin/wxbase-config -> wxbase-2.4-config
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           16 Mar 22 13:00 /usr/bin/wx-config -> wxgtk-2.4-config
-rwxr-xr-x    1 root     root         5159 Sep 21  2003 /usr/bin/wxgtk-2.4-config

I'm assuming your aMule rpms are compiled with gtk2 disabled? So I should ok now right?

Hi all!

I'm revamping this thread because I have the problems described here, that is to say after many hours that aMule is running the user interface is not updated anymore (everything disappears, sort of, and a mix of white and gray remains).

I compiled wx as per Howto, disabling Gtk2 support. wx-config symlink correctly (I think) points to wxgtk-2.4-config (and not to wxgtk2-2.4-config).

Until now, the problem happened to me with the aMule client iconified. Now I'm trying to leave it expanded on the desktop, and see what happens.

Thanks, Michele.
