Optimal settings for slow aDSL
« on: March 10, 2004, 09:41:56 PM »

Howdy folks!
I`ve been using aMule for a whole year now, and have just moved to Linux. aMule is great, but up until now I found out that it actually has some crippling problems. One of them is the "endless loop" with some files, where their last part is recognised as corrupted. I haven`t met it only on big and huge files, like some other people said in other posts, but in 100MB files as well and don`t actually know why! Under WinXP eMule completed the files just fine...
And now, on to my main problem...

aMule is slow. Dead slow. I have a crappy connection (384/128) and cannot get any better where I am, so I just have to make do with that one. The more crappy thing about it, is that it doesn`t react at its TRUE speeds, so I think that my actual speed is more like 350/100 or 340/90. Together with this, add an even more crappy modem that I was forced to buy (if I wanted a fast connection or else "they wouldn`t enable it" as they told - yeah, THAT kind of luck) that, from what I guess up until now, can take up to 200 to 300 connections and NOT the "crazy" limits some people say are optimal (1000 - 2000...gosh, I`d like to see these!).

Soooooo! The questions!
What are the settings you`d say I should use to see optimal results? My PC is used almost specifically for running aMule, so I don`t have any other considerations (web server - bla - bla). When I want to read my mails or surf, I can manually drop the speed, so, no prob here...

Can you give me some "optimal" settings that would use my connection to the fullest? Keep in mind that, from what I`ve seen my actual upload speed may reach 13-14, but after 9-11k`s saturation raises its ugly head and my downloads drop.

I`d be glad for any replies...
Thanx
