Save Settings/Key-word searches
« on: September 28, 2007, 09:13:13 AM »

I would like to save differnt setups to a file with a name so that I may reload previous settings.

I would also like to save the key-words I use in searches for future use.

Hi peterregister,

If I understand you right, then the first thing is easy to do: The configuration is saved in the file amule.conf (the location depends on your operating system). Just save a copy this file to save your configuration and overwrite this file with the copy to reload previous settings.

I'm not sure about the second one, I think the keywords are saved somewhere, but I'm not sure where.

I think the last post of Peterregister belongs to this thread: http://forum.amule.org/index.php?topic=13440.0

eMule does this and I find it very handy to repeat searches. I find the alphabetical index of previous key-word searches helpful in repeating searches with different file types.

I suppose it must be easy to modify the source code of eMule and integrate in aMule next release.

It would even be great if I can group my key-words into a file that I can load/save by subject matter (Electronics) :

ELECTRONICS:
-diagram
-schematic
-DIY
-motors
-ac dc
-batteries
-circuits
-build your own
-repair
-diode data book
-IC cook book
-oscilloscope
-multimeter
-frequency
-transistor

all the above key-words could produce files relative to electronics. It's almost like book-marking only I would Load my group subject matter then every key word I used in the past would be available by drop-down selection window.

Please, do as you say. ;) We'll happily accept patches.

This is for feature requests. In other words, ideas for the programmers. If I had time to learn porogramming I wouldn't  be asking others for the features. If I get critized for not implementing my ideas on an "idea based" feature request then maybe the forum should be titled:

"Feature requests ONLY by those willing to take time to implement them, otherwise: shutup and get lost!"

Ay, another one who doesn't understand I'm not entirely serious when I use a smiley. I have to make this more clear in the future.

Anyway: Just like you, developers usually lack on time. They have a job or university, a social life (at least I think so), family and other hobbies. If we had more dedicated developers with a lot of free time, we would probably be at aMule 3.0 already. ;) [Note the usage of a smiley]

Many people know a bit of programming as well and can actually code a patch for their feature requests. This aids developers a lot and increases the chances of feature being integrated. Currently our focus is on getting 2.2.0 ready, so you shouldn't expect new features until after the release, particularly not written by us. But if we get a patch, then chances are high that it will be adjusted and integrated.

D'accord?
