I have a LAN with 4 computers: 3 are used for web/mail and one is dedicated to webserver/p2p (i will call it "muleserver"). I have the Us Robotics 9106 ADSL router with the latest firmware (2.5) and my ADSL specs are:
Upstream (Kbps): 320
Downstream (Kbps): 4832
The main hardware specs of the muleserver are those:
AMD Athlon XP 1600+
512MB DDR
80GB HD
Until the last 2 weeks, on muleserver there was a Windows 2000 installation with eMule 0.47a and this configuration:
Upload limits: 47KB/s
Download limits: 400KB/s
Sources for each file: 500
Max connections: 800
Buffer: 1,5Mb
Queue: 2000The network surfing with the other computers was very speedy, like emule was not running, and also the lan traffic (file copy and so on) was really fast.
But the muleserver, with other stuff on (wamp server and so on), was very slow on usage because of the memory (full ram plus a lot of swap file), so i decided to switch everything on the Open side of the Force

The actual configuration is Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 with aMule 2.1.3 and this configuration:
Upload limits: 24KB/s
Download limits: unlimited
Sources for each file: 250
Max connections: 400
Buffer: 990kb
Queue: 1000Do you notice lower value? Yes, because still with those values, aMule kills my connection

It works and downloads what i ask (high ID, no firewalling, everything ok) but it is really heavy compared to emule... when amule work i'm not able to surf on the web with the other computers, and in a couple of hours my usr9106 hang up and i need to reboot it. The relative good side is that the muleserver itself goes well, only 200mb of ram used to give the same services of w2k+wamp+emule, but i would like to at least go back to same networking experience of before... and from what i've read on the net, my router should be able to stand even higher values of the emule ones...
