Just a request
« on: April 14, 2008, 05:47:04 PM »

Probably as you saw this week was released the first public beta for eMule 0.49a. This beta include loads of great improvement in kademlia.
I wish you only release 2.2.0 (I know there could be some bugs, but 2.1.3 is not usable, no more, so everything it's better) and start introducing these new feature (one of these is obfuscation protocol in kademlia).
I know also that you want to be totally independent from eMule, but if I were you I'd pay more attention in eMule's mod world, and look at how it develop.

I can speak for how this worked before I stepped down.

There was (And afaik, is) a lot of collaboration between the eMule and aMule project. In the past, I was acting as a bridge between both, and I am familiar with both codebases. Chances are now someone will be the one in contact if needed.

I know 0.49a beta was released, and I know the changes it had. I am also sure someone will implement them in aMule. But the team has never and will probably never take people telling them when and how to do things in a good way. Things are being done, things will be done, and that's prety much about it. Your "if I were you" sentence is condescending, and you should realize that, indeed, you are not them. Noone has ever said anything about being independent from eMule, and the opinion about eMule's mods is clear from a lot of posts here. There's a reason their features are not in eMule - and the team tends to agree with those reasons.

Hope I'm spilling no secrets by crushing your hopes and mine as well (well - it's open source  ;) ), but regarding Kad aMule is still almost at level of eMule 0.46. Kad 2.0 from eMule 0.47 is still not implemented.

Now if 2.2.0 comes out anytime soon, I doubt very much there's anything of the new KAD stuff in it. However, with Kad 2.0 having been introduced in 2006 there is a good chance eMule will drop Kad 1.0 after 0.49. So bringing Kad up to date should be a priority issue - after 2.2.0. Mind, I switched myself from eMule 0.48 to aMule SVN recently and noticed no degrade (using only Kad, no ED2K), so it might be not such a big issue as of now - but once eMule drops 1.0 it will be.  :(

LOL - I should have checked SVN before posting. Guess I underestimated gonosztopi by far.  ;D

Well, having no problems is not an excuse.
I know I'm not you, and you are tired of listening this complain, so I will be brief. To me it's incredibly necessary to release this version (people still uses 2.1.3, and not everyone can compile from svn) because as I can see a lot of the bug people complain about, they are corrected in 2.2.0.

Believe me, I'm on your side on this issue. The problem is that every time we're getting close to a release, there's a new bad bug discovered or the implementation of a new feature to finish and the release even further delayed.

I do not consider our current developmental code release ready (not anymore), but I hope this changes soon.

well, I only asked it cause i hear everywhere the necessity of an update for 2.1.3, that would correct loads of bug for loads of people. Then, after the 2.2.0 is released, simply have a new TODO list for the next release, trying to respect it. No more no less

Well, since you mention eMule mods in your first post: I had a halfway-finished port off the ClientAnalyzer on my hdd (RIP), because this is a nice-to-have feature [albeit in slightly modified form] and I'll work on it again sometime in the future. (Currently I focus on amuleweb usability improvements, although finishing skin support is a priority item, too)

Are there any other interesting features, which we should incorporate?

Cmq: Feel free to ask about releases. You're doing it in an OK way (in contrast to some now-banned users) and - lamentably - you are right with what you say. So it's OK with me.
