Firewall...
« on: March 28, 2004, 03:36:53 PM »

Hi. I'm sorry to post this in here but I was unable to do it on the linux section. I'm new at linux. How can I configure a firewall on linux also to solve the low ID problem on aMule... I'm using SuSe 9.0 on an AMD 500Mhz using a cable modem... Thanks.

hello,

i guess u use then suse firewall .. if yes, u'll have to edit /etc/sysconfig/SuSEfirewall2 (as root)

FW_SERVICES_EXT_TCP=" 4662"
FW_SERVICES_EXT_UDP=" 4665 4672"

and restart your firewall ..

Hi
I had the same problem (suse 9.2 though) and I changed my firewall configuration  as you said.
I am also sure that all my other configuration is right:
bandwidth limit:
download : 100
upload 10
slots :2
...everything quite the way it is explained in the wiki.

I still never experience download speeds over 15 kB/s
does anybody have an idea why this could be....
This even happens if i try to download some of the most popular files there are out there...

Please help me.

ps: I use dsl so i should easily  get a lot higher speeds...

Yes, and your amule behaves exactly as explained in another wiki page: http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/AMule_is_slow

No, you CAN get higher download speeds (as in "have the technical possibilities to do so"). What you SHOULD get is something around the same as your upload speed. That's the way a p2p network works: If you look at the whole network one can only get out of the network what is put into the network somewhere else. So the very moment you download more than you upload you already get more than your "fair share"  ;)

i found out that the problem is that even though the firewall configuration is right, my ports still seem to be closed...(siehe deutsches forum)....
