aMule disappears on Fedora 9 x86_64
« on: July 15, 2008, 12:24:23 PM »

I have this problem with amule in Fedora 9 amd 64:when i launch amule,it starts normally but appears minimized at the top left angle of the screen instead than in the panel,if i click on it it become shown and i can see it's working well and without any problem but, after some hours,it disappear from the angle as itìs closed and doesn't appear in the panel,i can't launch it anymore and look if it's working,if i launch thesystem monitor in the "process" submenu amule appears with the voice "sleeping"and so i can't see if it's really working

Now i have so to reboot the gui by ctrl+alt+del and start amule ffrom the beginning..and all what i've described beyond repeats itself over and over..what can i do ? does anyone else have this problem ?

Any ideas ?

Cheers

No offense, but that's (imho) common internet politeness.

Anyway, what version of aMule are we talking about? Can you start aMule from a terminal (just type "amule" in a terminal) to see any output? Could you try disabling all tray icon settings in the preferences?

I'm using the 2.2.1,not the older 2.1.3 that comes with Fedora 9,i've installed the newest version following a guide somewhere

In this situation,i can start amule from the console only as root and if i launch it as root it starts from the beginning,as i had no server list and no downloads active etc..in practice,as it is the first time of launching ! but this is not the case!

if i launch from the console as a simple user,it tells me it's already working on but i can't see any gui on the screen

Yes,i've tried de-selecting " start minimized" from preferences,so by this way it doesn't appear anymore in the top left corner of screen but, again, after some time it disappears from the screen and if i launch the system monitor it says emule is sleeping and so on..ah,i'm using gnome 2.22

Have you any  ideas ?

Thank you very much !

Uhm..i'll try disabling all the others voices about tray icon in preferences and look if so works..but in suse 10.3 i've selected all them in 2.2.1  and i didn't ever  had any problems..(i've left suse for compatibility problems with my printer all-in-one)

..boh..

let's hope well !

thank you

At least, until now, disabling all the tray options in preferences has not made the error i write the post for come out..so maybe,it was that the problem / error..

If it should come out again,i'll let you know

In the meantime..thank you very much for your help and the time you gave me !

Ciao !

OK, please delete the file ~/.aMule/muleLock (~ is your home directory and .aMule is a hidden directory) You'll be able to start aMule again.

Then about the Ctrl+Alt+Del thing: You can use the command "killall" to stop aMule - type "killall amule" in a terminal and it should be terminated.

If it works now, please re-enable the tray icon options (it's weird that it doesn't use the system tray, but most probably a problem on your side) and give me the terminal output when starting aMule in a terminal.

OpenSuse? I'm sorry, but there are problems with packages, which are not our fault and there's nothing we can do about it.

Please compile at least crypto++ and aMule (preferrable wx too) by hand and the problem should be solved. Also consider using IhmSelbst's packages, they should be OK, too.

Take a look at the file amule_build_install.sh, there are instructions on how to compile stuff by hand.

Cheers!

look,it's been working for some hours and it doesn't appear to have the disappearing problem anymore...i've deseleted the tray options aand done as you suggested and it  works well now,so maybe the bug stays here..anyway  it's strange 'cause i've always  selected all the tray options in previous versions of Fedora and in other distros and amule  has always worked well

Thanks a lot to all the people that helped me and to all the others in this forum..,

Good day ! and long life to King Tux !
