"shadow copy" of myself?
« on: August 09, 2008, 10:45:24 AM »

Hello,

Don't know if it happened before, but yesterday I compiled and installed aMule 2.2.2 on Debian testing and noticed something strange.

Amongst the clients in my queue there is one (geoip tells me it's not from Italy, where I live) which has the same nickname as mine and the same client version  as mine.
I tried to change nickname and restart aMule: the nickname of the client has changed accordingly.

Moreover, it seems to actually upload some parts from my shared files.

What can it be? Is it some sort of bot?

Thanks in advance.

There are some mods of eMule copying your nickname, and also modversion (software)...

These are leecher-mods...but nothing "da preoccupparsi" ! :)

What are leecher-mods?

P.S. "da preoccuparsi" (to be worried of) is written with only one "p" ;)

A leecher-mod is an eMule software modified to take advantage of some feauters in an unfair way. They clone your username (among other things) hoping that the mule software you use will upload to the faster. Some mods upload faster when detect community strings in the nick of the requesting clients.
P.S. "da preoccuparsi" (to be worried of) is written with only one "p" ;)
So is it written "da preoccuarsi" or "da reoccuparsi"? :P I think you meant only one "c"?

Regards.

I think he meant it with two "p"s, instead of three.

Well, I'd say it's rather the answer to some mods which favour some special nicks (nicks containing the name of a releaser group usually).  Auto-adapting a nick is not a leeching functionality. :P

Yep, I meant that the word does not contain the double "p". :)

Thanks all for the answers :)
