Website in danger
« on: August 29, 2008, 11:36:43 PM »

- THE SERVER EXPENSES HAVE BEEN COVERED - NO NEED FOR MORE DONATIONS!

- THANKS TO ALL THAT DONATED, AND TO ALL THAT HAVE EXPRESSED THEIR INTENTION TO DONATE BUT COULDN'T MAKE IT IN TIME!

Srsly guys, we love you.

Old post:

Dear users, dear visitors.

An unexpected threat emerged suddenly against the aMule website: we might be unable to pay for the server. This server hosts the forum, bug-tracker, wiki and the download page. In the past we had a generous donor who always covered the missing money, but now - because of some financial problems - he's unable to do so.

To cut the long story short: the new server invoice is due this monday, 1 Sep 2008. The amount is around 370 EUR, and on paypal the current donations are 77,49 EUR, meaning we are just short 300 euro for payment. We can get probably a couple weeks delay in the payment.

So, now, happy users of aMule, we count on you as you used to count on us when requesting bugfixes and new features. Please help keeping the server alive, by donating. Means of donations can be found on the main page, under the title "Happy with aMule?".

We state here, that all donations will be used for keeping the server alive, and for nothing else.

We count on you.

i don't see any reason to help you pay for there server.

1. amule is very unstable application, outdated, and just bad.
2. no support for mac, every time you have to comply new version on your own, i have no problem with that, the  only problem is:
i. the developers wont help with problems, so you stay with errors and half of the application wont work.
ii.the wiki is totally useless for mac users with leopard and Intel.

Donated, not a big amount but I hope it helps.

To the people finding excuses for themselves not to donate for an application they are using *and* brag about it: you suck.

Is true, aMule for Mac has a lot of problems, is very slow, ugly and the devs do not even want to consider an UI redesign (apparently all is needed to make it nice is shiny icons for them). This does not change the fact that I am using the application.

However, I would really like to know where they are hosting this! 377€/year sounds like a lot to me. The guy who suggested sourceforge has indeed a point and there are also a lot of stable but cheaper ISP (assuming we are talking about a VPS).

A simple question to these Mac users complaining about missing builds:

Would you pay 10€ for working Mac OS X binaries?

This would be perfectly legal with the GPL and a means to help to pay for the server. I don't trust the target group, though.

Yes, build good application with good support and i'll pay 10€. but for now, you don't offer any support and create crappy application.

Suggestion to sell binaries is OK by itself. Those who think it's "crappy application" will just skip it; so problem solved. Not sure how feasible the idea is - how do we process payments? Building e-commerce site?

BTW, support for $15 application? Really? On what planet would that be? The best thing you get for $15 is "FAQ" section on company website. Support would cost an order of magnitude expensive.

*sign* - if you don't like the app, improve it, or stop using it and quit whining. you're pathetic.

I been using amule for years. I had up/downloaded a lot of GB's with this program. I saw his evolution since ¿Xmule? . My family usually connect to my amule web server to make his searchs and downloads with my cable connection. I'm really happy with amule and his evolution. Thanks for your work: --> 4B360547UM612174W
