KAD firewalled
« on: September 13, 2008, 05:25:46 PM »

People,

I hope you can help me on this one, because a lot of surfing on different forums didn't help me so far. The problem I have is that I can't use Kademlia at all because of the status firewalled (the globe shows a red arrow on the left and a yellow arrow on the right).

Information:
Amule 2.2.2
Windows Vista
Sitecom DC 202v6

At this point I already forwarded the ports 4662 (TCP), 4665 (UDP) and 4672 (UDP). Different tests showed that the ports are properly configured. Within Windows Firewall I accepted Amule as an exception.

When I connect or bootstrap from the common nodes.dat the graph starts writing and after a minute or two the status firewalled appears. When I try to search, it looks like Amule is searching, but even after ten minutes I get zero search results.

Can someone give me a solution?

Greets.

Hello,

I'm back again..!

First of all I turned of Windows Firewall. For the ease I gave my PC a static IP and adapted the portforwarding rules in the router to the static IP. Within the router menu there were two other options that seemed to make a good connection possible: special applications & portmapping (portforwarding is called virtual servers within the router menu). I entered the ports to be given free in both options, but no result.

At last I looked up the firewall within the router (menu). I have to conclude that this firewall is already turned off with the standard settings, so this also couldn't block the connection with Kademlia.

Adjusting the settings (70-100) & (9) also has no effect...

I'm still firewalled in every possible way, so please help me!

Greetings!

Try different ports (something between 5000 and 6000). Forward them properly in your router (one TCP, one UDP).
I have it running perfectly on Vista, without turning the firewall off. It asks the first time you start aMule, you accept it, that's it.

I've changed the port numbers within aMule and the router to 5662 TCP, 5665 UDP & 5672 UDP, but I keep being firewalled.

Next thing I tried, is to disconnect the router and directly connect the PC to the modem (a Motorola SBV5121E cable modem that my ISP provided). I found out that even in this configuration, I'm still firewalled. Could it be that the modem or ISP is blocking traffic?

I can remember that when I bought the Vista PC (half a year ago) , I could use Kademlia succesfully on eMule for a few weeks. After these few weeks Kademlia seemed dead. Now, with aMule, I'm experiencing the same problems, except I haven't been able to use Kademlia at all...

I hope someone can give me advice! ???

Try downloading a completely new nodes.dat .

I'm using the standard nodes.dat, which is automatically getting refreshed bij aMule.

Eureka!

As said, I used the nodes.dat that comes with aMule (http://www.emule-inside.net/files/nodes.dat). I suggested that this one would be ok. I renamed the original nodes.dat to nodes_old.dat and downloaded a new one (http://download.tuxfamily.org/technosalad/utils/nodes.dat). Now aMule is finally giving the status connected! Thanks so far!

I only have one more question. On the globe, the right arrow is green, but only the left one stays red. Do both arrows have to be green, or is the left arrow displayed for ED2K?
