HELP: I can't extract files that I download.

For some reason most of the .rar and .zip files that I download from aMule don't work. I get messages like "this isn't an .rar file" or "this file can't be opened with this program" when the file is and .rar and I used that same program earlier to open one. I have tried several different programs and they all say something similar. I was thinking that it may have something to do with the fact that they were compiled on a PC and my Mac just doesn't recognize the files because of it, but I haven't found anything to confirm that. I am kind of throwing that theory out the window now anyway because I put one of those files on my friends PC and it still didn't work. I wouldn't get an error message or anything, it would go through the extraction process, but when it's done there aren't any files showing up anywhere. I made sure to specify where the files should go, but still nothing. I have been trying to figure it out for days and I am now at the end of my rope. Could someone please shed some light on this for me so that downloading files isn't useless anymore. Thanks.

Just open them, in a mediaplayer and enjoy yourself. Most likely it's a bad named porn movie.

Tried that and nothing. I was trying to download music as it were and I have never had this problem before when I was using eMule on a PC. I just recently started having this problem when I started using aMule on my Mac.

The message I get when I use the program The Unarchiver is "The contents of the file 'filename.rar' can not be extracted with this program." When I got that message I found and used a different one. The message I get when I use UnRarX is "'filename.rar is not a RAR archive No files to extract." Now these responses would make sense  if it were just a bad file and that is what I thought at first until 9 out of 10 .rar files that I downloaded all gave me the same problem.

Now - you DID check how the file was named at all the different sources, didn't you ?  ;D

Didn't think to, I have never had  to. I have never had this problem before. This is my first time using aMule, but I have been using eMule for a couple of years now and this has never been a problem. If that is something that needs to be some for aMule specifically then that is good to know. If so please elaborate.

It has nothing to do with aMule, only with people renaming who-knows-what (usualy porn) as something else. Like, if you download that REALLY DIRTY movie, and are afraid your wifey might peek over your shoulder, you better rename it to "Ubuntu_Hardy.rar".  ;D
If you never had this problem before you never used the search function or were very lucky.

If that is the case then I would like to know if this happens to others as often as it is happening to me. I have only ever searched to find what I wanted to download. I really didn't think that this was a problem with aMule, but was really looking for a solution to the problem. I still think it is rather odd that most of the music I download does this and I would find it even more odd if it isn't happening as well to others as frequent as it does to me.

it happens... move on and try another search/download of the file you want or go for something else and come back again later to see if  any new versions are available. Don't think anything is wrong with your setup/unarchiving programs just duff file.
