autoban Clients with no_upload mod
« on: November 16, 2008, 12:17:02 PM »

would be great to have such a feature...because if everyone uses this mod.....ed2k is dead soon ;-)

I hope this request doesnt hurt the non-request-order....

Yes, it does.  ;)
If everybody starts banning each other ed2k will be just as dead.
Those mods don't carry "no_upload" in their name. A client that has no data you need yet won't upload to you either, and if you ban him he won't get data to upload to others. And if others ban him he won't get data to upload to you. And new users will be frustrated and leave. So there is no gain in such a feature.

Credit system already rewards uploaders (and thus punishes non-uploaders).

But I suspect there's at least a mood (should be leachted) that copies your name. Reason: I don't know but I suspect they have found a way to not steal but copy your rewards "credits" to be able to download without upload. Some moods in Windows I thik they have found a solution (I thik Arcangel, but at least Mephisto quite sure) but not mine. Now I don't have this problem in eMule becase I have almost always stopped but I change regularly my name in aMule to prevent it and sometimes it works.

I was thing to look for the file where my name is and the file of known clients and when I client has the exact name as me change it automatically by a daemon or a little program running, but I still havent found time to do it.

Your name has nothing to do with credits. See Secure User Identification for the details involved with copying your name. Hint: It's next to impossible with current computers.

Please take no offence, but a tip: Minimize aMule and don't watch it. It'll be happier this way.

I suspect they have found a way to not steal but copy your rewards "credits" to be able to download without upload.

"Name stealing" is a feature of some mods to take benefit from community mods. "Identity (userhash) stealing" would not work for various reasons:
- SUI would detect it and would mark the stealer as a "bad guy"
- because credits are stored "on the other side", there's no use to use the stolen identity (userhash) with the client it was stolen from
- the probability that the stolen identity (userhash) gives you better credits on the other side, is roughly equivalent to the probability of chosing a random number between 0..2^128 which falls into an unknown interval. It just cannot be guessed whether it's better or worse than the original.

I was thing to look for the file where my name is and the file of known clients and when I client has the exact name as me change it automatically by a daemon or a little program running, but I still havent found time to do it.

Your name is stored in ~/.aMule/amule.conf. Known clients are stored in ~/.aMule/clients.met. Names of other clients are not stored because they're meaningless.

on the emule-project forums they are constantly throwing around ideas to improve the reward system in emule "how should we reward uploaders?" "should we reward uploaders?" "my credit system is fairer and faster" "my mod spreads rare files better"

its all being.... and has already been.... discussed millions of times,
I'm sure when the dev team at emule deicide on what's best, it will be implemented into amule there time after.

but for the moment, I'd stick to 'wuischke' suggestion above.

i.e.

Run and leave, come back in a couple of days and everything will be done, leave for a couple of more days to give back.
easy.
