aMule and GTK2
« on: April 12, 2004, 10:17:31 AM »

When will be possible to link wxWidgets against GTK2 without aMule keeps crashing or leaking a lot of cpu? Is that an aMule problem, a Gentoo-related one or is that fault of wxWindows? I don't want to criticize, aMule is surely a great program and 2.0rc2 works fine even if is not so good-looking  :D

Hi,

Thats a wxWidonws question :) wxGTK-2.4.2 is not ready to fully support GTK2. aMule will be compiled against wxGTK2 when wxGTK2 will be stable :)

As wx dev do a great job, the day will come soon.

For now, if u use gentoo, add -gtk2 in USE to compile wx and all will run fine. (as it could run fine on  gentoo :) )

The most important is not u use beta feature, but just have an app which do the job fine :)

How is the situation nowadays? Unstable wxGTK versions have reached 2.6.1 meanwhile, but is GTK2 support any better?

(In my personal experience: no. I tried wxGTK (compiled using the +GTK2 flag) in combination with GTK+ 2.6.8 and aMule 2.0.3 and still experienced constant crashing. :( )

its stable and it does not chrash, it just eats a lot of ram, this will get a lot better with wx-2.6.2 which will be released "soon"
if you want to try it out already take wx-cvs
