Maximum downloads bug?
« on: December 06, 2009, 05:50:03 AM »

I'm not sure about this as it's highly infrequest and produces no usable crashdump, but it looks like something is breaking if  amuled reaches 100 active downloads.

All I have logged is:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A fatal error has occurred and aMule has crashed.
Please assist us in fixing this problem by posting the backtrace below in our
'aMule Crashes' forum and include as much information as possible regarding the
circumstances of this crash. The forum is located here:

If possible, please try to generate a real backtrace of this crash:

FWIW, in the source tree both messages appear to be sourced from aMule.app/Contents/Frameworks/libthreadutil.2.dylib

Wait. You are running on Linux (judging from the kernel version Ubuntu 9.10), aren't you? In this case anything in aMule.app should not be involved, that's only for Mac builds.

But I don't know what might cause this message. Could you please try to generate a real backtrace?

Yes, Linux (Ubuntu Karmic i386, locally compiled)

I'll try, but it could take a while - I've only seen this appear 3 times in the last 12 months

Just a question: does this happen with 100 downloads _downloading data?_ or simply with 100 downloads active (even if waiting)??

Regards.

Hi,

I get the same messages:
Code: [Select]
too many jobstotal jobs = 100even after amule crashed. I dont't think it's a "maximum download bug". I'm currently running about 350 downloads and that was fine running Debian Etch.

Anyway, I get another message during running amule from command line (don't know if this is an issue):

I recently upgraded my machine from Debian Etch 40.r3 to Debian Lenny 5.0r3 and changed the motherboard from a VIA EPIA MII-10000 to VIA PC-1/PC2500. All packages come from Lenny, only amule 2.2.6 is self-compiled as described in the wiki with the following options:

I don't know if the version of wxGTK (2.8.7) and crypto++ (5.5.2) are fine.

Another problem is, that the self-compiled one running on Etch was in german language and on Lenny I now have english. I think I'm also missing some packages for compiling...

Any sugestions?

joker

Anyway, I get another message during running amule from command line (don't know if this is an issue):
Code: [Select]
** (amule:24938): CRITICAL **: clearlooks_style_draw_box_gap: assertion `height >= -1' failed
That's a common problem (probably wxWidgets related) an appears not to be critical.

Sure.  :)
Code: [Select]
./configure --enable-optimize
Code: [Select]
  aMule enabled options:

  **** aMule Core ****
Prefix where aMule should be installed?                    /usr/local
Should aMule be compiled with i18n support?                no
You have to configure it with --enable-nls (nls == "national language support").

Here's the latest Backtrace:
Please try to get a full GDB backtrace so we can see what arguments are passed. I'd guess something is wrong with wx/gtk/pango/whatever.

crypto++ is fine, wx isn't. 2.8.10 is the current version. If you don't want to update your OS to something that ships current wx you should compile wxGTK yourself (no big deal, see the wiki).

Sure.  :)
OK, the language issue is solved after installing gettext  ::) .

In Etch it was not neccessary to compile wx. Amule 2.2.6 was able to compile fine with the standard packages from the distro.
Compiling wxGTK was NOT the "no big deal"  :( : after installing the neccessary packages
Code: [Select]
apt-get install flex bison gettext libgtk2.0-dev python-all-dev python-all-dbg zlib1g-dev libjpeg62-dev libpng12-dev libtiff4-dev libsm-dev libgl1-mesa-dev libglu1-mesa-dev libesd0-dev libgnomeprintui2.2-dev libgconf2-dev libgstreamer0.10-dev libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-dev bc APT installed 84 Packages. That broke somehow the vino-server and I had no chance, to get my desktop back, because the machine has no display (headless server). Only SSH was possible. So the machine was built out and I took it back to my workspace... After restoring the VNC-functions I also got a kernel  failure. I needed 3 tries to build the amule binary. At the moment, the machine is running, but not stable anymore. I think I'm going to uninstall the self-compiled version of wx and go back to the distros one.

I don't know the VIA PC-1 board good yet, but it seems to me that this board is crap. I'm running lenny on a couple of machines and don't have such problems there (need to disable ACPI, etc.).

Would it be a great idea to upgrade the kernel?

joker

Hmm, sounds like a bad distro to me. I'm using Ubuntu and Fedora and never had problems like this. Even when compiling wx myself, which is not necessary there.
WTF - "Lenny" is current stable and ships with wx 2.8.7 ? What are they thinking ? Oh, and poor homepage. Sniffing my IP, turning German, I turn back to English, click a link, and German again.

Try a different distro.

Hi,

I'm using debian since a long time now and was happy almost the whole time. I've had redhat 5.2 and suse 9.1 before, I also tried ubuntu. Debian seemed always a good choice in stability und usability.

Anyway, I figured out some more problems, which maybe caused a crash of amule. I wanted to copy some files for a friend and he gave me a hdd with ntfs. I was always able to copy files from one hdd to another while running amule, but my hdds are running encrypted ext3. So I installed the ntfs-3g driver in order to get write access to the hdd. This driver is causing 100% CPU usage while copying files to that disk, even without running amule.

What did I do to get my stable system back? :)
I uninstalled the self-compiled amule and wx, told apt to remove the previously installed packages for compiling wx. Then told apt to use the repository from vollstreckernet.de as described in the wiki and installed wx 2.8.10 using apt. Amule was compiled again and voila: the system is running fine since.

I still have got some small problems: since I'm running amule in german language, the buttons became a bit larger and the preferences button disappeared. I haven't got a clue how to change settings now :) , but it wasn't neccessary yet. I think it's a problem of the X server and/or font settings. I'll try some other modelines in xorg.conf when I find the time. At the moment only a resolution of 800x600 is possible. On etch I also had smaller fonts, so that wasn't an issue.

I'm still thinking of upgrading to a current kernel version (2.6.31)...

Hi,

Looks more like a bug in the pango library. >:(
is it possible to fix it (i. e. upgrading Pango)?
Istill use standard distro packages, so am I the only one with this issue?

Code: [Select]
lambda:~# apt-cache policy libpango1.0-0
libpango1.0-0:
  Installiert: 1.20.5-5
  Kandidat: 1.20.5-5
  Versions-Tabelle:
 *** 1.20.5-5 0
        500 http://ftp5.gwdg.de lenny/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     1.20.5-3+lenny1 0
        500 http://security.debian.org lenny/updates/main Packages
Shouldn't have the security fix a higher version?

joker
