sudden low id and firewalled kad on 2.2.5
« on: January 20, 2010, 03:06:17 AM »

Hi,
I'm using amule v2.2.5 on an intel mac.
I have the ports on my router configured correctly and have had high id and kad running smoothly for six months or so.
Now all of a sudden I have neither, I get the following on startup;

I tried updating server.met and nodes.dat but to no avail.
I have also tried moving the aMule folder from /Users//Library/Application Support/aMule and starting as if for the first time which has worked for me in the past but this time i'm a little stuck.
Could anyone shed any light on this? I'd be most grateful

What did you do to get a high id? Maybe it sheds some light on your issue or it will help others that encounter the same problem.
If you get a high ID but KAD is firewalled, I can't think of anything else than a blocked port. Did you try the port test?

The port test comes back negative but I know everything is set up okay with my router.
I've had no problems the whole time I have had this router

Do you get your IP through DHCP? If so, please check whether you have your usual IP and if it's the one with the firewall rule where the port is open.

No I use a static ip address, when i forwarded the ports to my router I read that this was necessary for this particular router

When did you forward the ports? Only recently to whether it helps or were they open before?
Something has to have changed in the configuration if it worked before.

I am totally unfamiliar with Macs so I can't help you checking your firewall settings on the computer.
Have you tried disabling everything regarding security just to see whether you get through like that?

Are you using default ports? If yes, change them (and adjust your router's port forwarding of course). Maybe your ISP has started blocking them.

I set the ports up about six months ago, changing the default numbers.
Worked fine since then, up until yesterday.
Since having problems with firewalled kad, I have reset the port settings on my router and set them back up how they should be.
I've also removed amule from the list of firewall exceptions in the security settings of mac osx and then re-added them.
Hope that made sense, it seems mysterious

Seems like the only way I am getting high id is if I delete all servers from the list and then add edonkeyserver no2 manually.
If I download the list and then try to connect that way, all I get is low id.

Use the following link to update you server list. It should contain valid servers only and therefore let you connect with a High ID.

Thanks, but I've tried this list without success. I still could only get low id.
However, at present I am connected with high id. The main problem is a lack of nodes when connected to Kad. I'm either firewalled, or connected and running at about 300-400 nodes. For the last six months Kad has been at about 1000-1100 which I believe is about what it should be.
Aside from my settings which have remained the same, are there any external factors which could account for this?

Maybe if your ISP has started blocking ED2K default port, and the other clients still use it.
Switch to 4662, forward it in your router, and run the port test.
