third party IP Filter?
« on: April 15, 2010, 04:14:11 PM »

Anyone have any recommendations for a good third party IP Filter?
 I see that Peerguardian for OSX is still around, though there appears to be no manual for it at the Phoenix Labs site.

Why not use aMule's internal IP filter?

Might be useful;

http://forum.amule.org/index.php?topic=16690.msg95702#msg95702

...could be used in a daily cron job, for example:

Code: [Select]
@daily ID=IPFilter amulecmd -c "reload ipfilter net" >/dev/null 2>&1
(works in recent SVN)

He's talking about a filter program, not about a filter list. At least that's what I understand.

I would not use a third party program! And why for?
It just takes more system resources!

I guess the issue is not *why* i want to use a third party IP filter - in addition to updated and trusted amule server lists - but what do people recommend if they are using them. The way i see it, a little more protection = system resources well spent.

On my windows box I use PeerGuardian. But when I want to connect to Valve-Steam it keeps blocking ad related IPs. So I have to disable it, which is kind of tedious. I don't know if you can specify exceptions for IPs being passed through.

Why would you think a third party filter would filter better than the internal filter?
