Is it OK to use 4672 as extended client UDP port?
« on: April 27, 2010, 02:41:34 AM »

I was recently advised to use a "non-standard" TCP port (i.e., almost  ANY port other than 4662) after receiving an aMule Log warning that many ISPs filter port 4662. Does the same hold true for the "standard" client UDP port 4672? Should I also use a "non-standard" port (i.e., other than 4672) for the extended client UDP port? Please advise. Thanks.

^marcell^, I do not understand your reply. Yes, I should use a "non-standard" port other than 4672. OR, Yes, it is OK to use 4672. Which "yes" do you "mean"? Please elaborate. Thank you.

Which "yes" do you "mean"?
Just reread your post. You asked two questions, and Marcell's answer applies to both of them.

So, it's OK to use 4672 and/but I should use a port other than4672? Do some ISPs filter 4672? Thanks.

People here prefer that you try to find your own answers as much as possible,
and when you ask something, you need to consider their answers carefully,
because if you dont, you are wasting their time.

Just reread your post. You asked two questions, and Marcell's answer applies to both of them.

So, what questions did you ask?

Quote from: jazzmaniac
Does the same hold true for the "standard" client UDP port 4672?

Marcell answers: "Yes."
So:
Yes, its advisable to use a "non-standard" client UDP port
Yes, many ISPs filter port 4672

Your second question is basically a repeat of the first half of your previous question:
Quote from: jazzmaniac
Should I also use a "non-standard" port ... for the extended client UDP port?

So, the answer to that question is identical too: "Yes."
So that in your last post, your first question has already been asked twice,
and has been answered by Marcell,
which has been confirmed by Stu.
And the second question in your last post has also already been asked,
and answered
and confirmed.

Thank you for your reply RRM. Point taken. I assure you, it was not my intention to waste anyone's time. Best regards.

True to you too. Thanks for the oblique "reply".

Sorry, I couldn't help having some fun...

Actually the answers to all three of your questions are: probably / yes / yes if possible. Apply them in order.

No problem. I appreciate a sense of humor -- even if it's at my expense. I must confess however, that overly "succinct" (an oxymoron?) replies (and not just yours alone) can be exasperating (when misunderstood by dense persons like me) even if they are offered in the interest of brevity. I'll take you off my s_ _t  list. No harm, no foul. Be well.

Now, in all seriousness, there *is* a problem with your thread, and I wish you avoided it in the future. The question in the thread name is the opposite of the question in the post.

Therefore, no response is accurate, you are all wrong, and I win.
