disable disk access
« on: April 22, 2011, 09:13:14 PM »

Hi everyone !
I have one simply question: with amuled, is it possible to disable the continuous writing of some files like amule.conf ? I need this option to spin down my hard disk.

Thanks in advance,

amule.conf isn't saved periodically I think.
If you have traffic, there will be more or less continuous disc access, saving stuff you downloaded and reading stuff you upload. No way to prevent that.

It is, since statistics are kept in that.

We probably should do that for 2.3.1. So, GonoszTopi earns the responsability to do so!

How can your hd spin down in the first place when it is reading all the time the files you are busy uploading, huh?

If you have enought RAM for all your shared files they could be loaded there :D

Spot on, use a ramdisk for .aMule with a script that acts on amule start/shutdown.

After all IMHO it's better to don't spin down hard drives. It's more work for the motor to start spinning again then keep it spinning all time!
It's like the start and stop tech the cars mount today in Europe I really don't like.

In fact, I would disconnect aMule from networks before.

Unfortunately, I don't ! aMule runs on a NAS (64 MB ram)

I think all depends on how much time your device stay up: in my case it could remain for days with disk spin off !
Moreover, during the night I *need* a device as silent as possible ! :D

Why not shut aMule down?
Disconnecting from networks won't stop uploads, at least not right away.
