Doesn't work on Fedora 14 x86_64
« on: September 11, 2011, 07:09:14 PM »

Just installed Fedora 14 x86_64 and amule from RPM Fusion: impossible to download anything, the program finds the sources but they are dropped after few seconds, very popular files have 5-10 sources and it is impossible to download anything. The culprit seems to be wxGTK 2.8.12, it works perfectly with wxGTK 2.8.10. I'm wondering how you can use amule with any recent linux distribution.

Looks like "amule from RPM Fusion" is broken. (Which version is it anyway?) Please compile aMule 2.3.1 rc2 yourself and try that.
wx 2.8.12 is fine and contains important fixes in relation to 2.8.10.

No, it is not. Amule from RPM Fusion is the plain vanilla 2.2.6 source code. Tried to compile other versions from the SVN tarballs, same result, sources are found and dropped. Anyway, you can try for yourself, grab a Fedora 14 iso image, install and try to run amule, it just doesn't work!

Did you compile wx 2.8.12 yourself or does it come with the distro? If the latter - try to compile it yourself.

And I'm afraid I can't set up a new OS installation every time there is a problem with a certain distro. Though I might take another look at Fedora since Obnoxious Ozelot appears to be a total loss.

I tried almost every thing it came to my mind to try to make it work without much success.

A brief history: I was using Fedora 10 which ships with wxGTK 2.8.10, aMule (any version, including SVN snapshots) worked well. The only issue is that 2.2.6 closes without any error after 24 hours, so I decided to try the SVN snapshots, with that it doesn't close anymore but stops to download after exactly 24 hours (see my other thread http://forum.amule.org/index.php?topic=19083.0). Because of that and because the most recent versions requires wxGTK 2.8.12 I tried to compile wxGTK 2.8.12 myself with the result that sources gets dropped after few minutes. I gave up on that and decided to try again when I had the time to install a more updated Linux release.

Now I have installed Fedora 14 which ships with wxGTK 2.8.12, unfortunately I get the same results as with F10 with wxGTK compiled by myself, aMule finds a number of sources and after few minutes it drops them all without any apparent reason, very popular files gets only 5-10 sources other files none, so it is impossible to download anything. I tried also to run aMule 32 bit just in case it is an issue with the 64 bit version, same result, it drops all sources.

The network and router are configured correctly, proved by running eMule with Wine. aMule just doesn't work with wxGTK 2.8.12 on this system!

So you also completely reinstalled the OS, and somehow deduced wx is the source of the problem?

Why did you install an old version of Fedora btw? 15 is current, 16 on the way.

If we had a general problem with Fedora reports would have come up before. I believed some misconfiguration of your OS but that should have gone away with the reinstall. Unless you repeated the misconfiguration yourself of course.
