I think this is best treated as separate to the fragility issues.
10602 (at least) effectively goes incommunicado during rehashing.
Any existing amulecmd or amulegui sessions lose most usability and no new connections are allowed.
No new inbound or outbound xfer sessions are allowed either and KAD/e2dk connections go idle.
