Questions about aMule 2.3.1
« on: December 25, 2014, 03:21:51 AM »

Hi there,

I have been using eMule for years but decided to test aMule (since its latest version is more recent) but I encountered a problem- I managed to add some shared directories but when I added a huge one (about 380 GB) aMule became unresponsive and I had to close it. After re-start it loaded but froze again- I could not close the 'Preferences' panel- 'OK' button could not be clicked. I suppose that the problem lies in contents indexing but I am not sure.

P.S. In fact after I deleted AppData\Roaming\aMule directory several times I was able to add the huge directory, but it worked only when I added it first and then the smaller directories. My system- Windows 8.1 x64.

Another tiny problem- when 'Enable Tray Icon' and 'Minimize to Tray Icon' are checked, double click on aMule's tray icon doesn't maximize aMule but opens it in task-bar from where I can maximize it. Is this a normal behaviour or this is a bug? When I double-click on aMule's tray icon I expect it to maximize to 'Desktop' immediately.

Are there any skins for aMule and if there are- where can one get them?

Is there a way to run aMule as a portable program forcing aMule to write all its data and settings in its own folder, not in AppData\Roaming\aMule?

eMule project seems to be abandoned- what is the situation with aMule? Will its development continue? Shall I expect new versions of aMule in the future?

I hope that this great project is alive.

Regards

I suppose that too.

Seems to me like a bug.

The installer available at SourceForge contains them.

Yes. You have to use the -c (--config-dir) command-line option to specify a different data directory.

I hope so ;)

Thanks for your response.

I downloaded the archived version from SourceForge and didn't find any skins in it.

If there is a new release of aMule I would suggest that the archived version might be natively portable (like eMule). Or perhaps the installer might offer a portable installation.

There are many mule forks but all seems to be abandoned. I hope aMule will be an exception. If the development continues I would like to test the betas.

Merry Christmas!
