Constants crashes on aMule 2.3.1
« on: April 02, 2015, 09:52:54 AM »

This is the message I get

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A fatal error has occurred and aMule has crashed.
Please assist us in fixing this problem by posting the backtrace below in our
'aMule Crashes' forum and include as much information as possible regarding the
circumstances of this crash. The forum is located here:
    http://forum.amule.org/index.php?board=67.0
If possible, please try to generate a real backtrace of this crash:
    http://wiki.amule.org/index.php/Backtraces

----------------------------=| BACKTRACE FOLLOWS: |=----------------------------
Current version is: aMule 2.3.1 compiled with wxGTK2 v2.8.12
Running on: Linux 3.16.0-33-generic x86_64

I am having these for months now.
The more files I have running and the higher speed they download, the more crashes I have.

The window just freezes, but terminal gives me that error.
I got this errors in different kernels with different Ubuntu versions (14.04, 14.10...). All of them 64 bits.

I keep all the files and temp files in a NTFS external drive.

That is not the only crash I have.
Sometimes the aMule window just disappear (instead of freezing).

Any help?

PS. On amuled I have a different error with more information: http://forum.amule.org/index.php?topic=20836.0

I got a new crash (of the type that makes the window disappear instead of freezing).

Please install the amule-dbg package and try to get a meaningful backtrace as described in http://wiki.amule.org/wiki/Backtraces

These crash reports do not show anything except the fact that aMule has crashed.

I have installed amule-dbg, but I get this error after changing the permissions (was just set to root):
~$ /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/amule
bash: /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/amule: cannot execute binary file: Exec format error

And using gdb same error:

~$ /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/amule
bash: /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/amule: cannot execute binary file: Exec format error

I guess the command line should be
Code: [Select]
$ gdb /usr/bin/amule

See the output of
Code: [Select]
$ which amule and use the path it prints.

Same problem using fresh install of Linux Mint 17. aMule 2.3.1 works for a shor time and crashes. The error is not always the same. It sometimes just gets blocked.

This may be important.

I have reset the settings to its default values. I have just limited uploads to 16Kbps and enabled PnP and now I have not experienced any crash in more than a week.

So seems that the bug is placed on a feature. Unfortunately I cannot tell which one it is.

I will keep testing to find out somethig more.

Hi, I'm just a standard Ubuntu user, no deep knowledge about kernel, libs, etc.

I was facing this constant aMule 2.3.1 crashes. I found that keeping my BitTorrent Transmission Client busy (downloading and seeding files) prevented aMule crashes. It may sound strange, but this happens to me, it is reproducible. As long as I keep Transmission busy, my aMule does not crashes, during days. As I close Transmission, aMule starts crashing.

I hope this helps the experts fixing the problem.

try this: on amule closed open your home, press CTRL+H and rename your .amule directory to .amule_bak, then reopen amule and amule starts with a default parameters

Does it crash if you do not use Transmission at all?
How many downloads/uploads do you usually have?
Can you install the debug version and start it with "gdb /usr/bin/amule"?
If it crashes then you could get a full backtrace by typing "thread apply all bt" and posting the output here.
