Thanks for looking into this.
If you need more informations please ask for it.

Solved:

A updated crypto++ package caused the trouble.

BUT:
aMule crashes right after the start cause of the mix of compiler versions...   :-[

"It will not launch" is of not much help. Please try to run it from a terminal and post any messages you get.

I guess you were using a non-default skin. Please, open ~/.aMule/amule.conf in a text editor, locate the line starting with "Skin=" (without the quotes), and delete any text after the equation sign. Save the file, and hopefully you'll be able to start your aMule.

Thank you. I shall try that.
I am currently running on Win (aMule works fine on it)
but will get back on Linux this afternoon.

To be honest, I was tinkering with various skins just before the crash.

I will get back to you and advise how this went.
Thank you again for helping me.

To be honest, I was tinkering with various skins just before the crash.

I knew that  8) The crash is caused by a wrong-sized image in one of the skins. If you'd like to try the skins, you can download the fixed ones from 2.3.2 and replace the broken ones with them.

Mmmm ... my Linux ignorance is shameful.
Entered ~/.aMule/amule.conf into text editor Pluma ---> nothing.
Entered ~/.aMule/amule.conf into Terminal ---> nothing.
Uninstalled aMule, then reinstalled ---> nothing.
I know the fault is mine.
Tempted to uninstall Ubuntu, then start all over again.
Switching over to Win now.  Have a lot of work to do.
Will return to Linux tonight.
Thank you.

Gonosz, I got it working after all!
Took awhile.  I did Alt Home, then Control H to find the conf file.
Then it was simple.
Thank you so much for helping me!

OK, going to revive this a bit.
After an Ubuntu update, I could not get amule to start.
I did some research and opened amule in the terminal.
It showed a file in amule called "muleLock."
I deleted that "muleLock" file and it opened fine.
I am posting this because I am sure this will occur again and I won't remember the solution.
This is the first place I check.
