Where and how is the transfers list saved?
« on: May 11, 2004, 08:31:51 AM »

Hi! I'd like to know where and how is the list of the files currently being transferred saved.

Why do I want to know this? My problem is that I have a dual startup computer (windows-linux) and that I sometimes work in one of the operating systems and sometimes in the other. If I have started downloading some files in emule in windows, I'd like the downloads to continue when I run amule in linux. I have tried configuring both programs to use the same incoming and temp directories, but it doesn't work. emule for windows keeps the list of transferring files in a file called downloads.txt in its installation directory (in a very readable format, a list of [part file] [ed2k link]). So I think that if I can manage to know where and how this list is saved in amule and copy that list there, I could achieve what I need.

Thanks in advance.

Both eMule and aMule use the .part.met files on temp for managing the transfer list. no external file like the one you describe is used afaik. Maybe you're using a mod?

No, I'm using the normal emule, downloaded from their page, but there's a file called downloads.txt in emule's installation directory.

Anyway, if you say that no such a file is needed for amule to start downloading, then if I setup amule to use the same incoming and temp directories as emule, when I launch it it should continue downloading the transfers started with emule, shouldn't it? The problem is that it doesn't...

Well, I'm away from my computer for some days, so I'm right now at a Windows box, with the very latest eMule installed. The official one... and there's a downloads.txr file. But that file has nothing to do with the hashing or whatever of the files. It is just a kind-of backup resource. Citing eMule's web page:
>A downloads.txt file is created in the eMule directory. It contains each file in the
>dowloads list as eD2k with its associated .part file.
>
>My downloads have vanished from the list
>This may happen after a bad crash or updating to a new version.
>You can either redownload the file by using the link or try to reestablish the
>broken link between .part and .part.met with tools like MetMedic or
>DonkeyDoctor.

But as you can read later, still .met files are the important ones, so they haven't been replaced:
>Replace the .part.met files in the temporary folder with their .part.met.BAK
>backups.

;-)
I guess you aren't doing things well on yuor system. SO check everything and then post a verbose explanation so we can help :-)
Greetings!

Problem corrected

You were right, the problem was mine. I took a look at the messages aMule showed when being launched, and I saw that it was actually trying to restart the transfer of the files in the Temp directory, but there was an error when opening them and so it couldn't continue with the download starrted in Windows. Further investigation led me to realize that the FAT partition I was using for it was mounted in Linux read-only except for root. So I mounted it for everyone in read-write, and everything went fine!

Thanks for your help, anyway. And I hope that my information will help you help someone else with my problem in the future.
